APCO TO HOST THIRD MEETING TO DISCUSS DEVELOPMENT OF NATIONWIDE INTEROPERABLE BROADBAND NETWORK
October 22, 2009, Alexandria, Va. - The Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO) International announced today that it will convene, in conjunction with the Major Cities Chiefs Association (MCC), a meeting of eight key public safety organizations to further address matters related to the development of a nationwide interoperable broadband network. In addition to the convening organizations, the meeting will include the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC), the Major County Sheriffs' Association (MCS), the Metropolitan Fire Chiefs Association (MFCA) and the National Emergency Management Association (NEMA) and the National Sheriffs' Association (NSA) and serve as a follow up to meetings convened by MCC and APCO International this spring.
The meeting will be held in mid-November in New York where the group will continue its joint deliberations on a consensus-based approach to license and manage spectrum to create a nationwide broadband wireless network for public safety that addresses the needs of rural, suburban and urban areas.
"APCO International looks forward to continuing these productive conversations, which are leading us closer to the development of a nationwide interoperable broadband network," APCO International Executive Director George Rice said.
