The
Fairfax County Virginia Department of Public Safety Communications (DPSC)
is recruiting to fill the position of 9-1-1 System Administrator. DPSC operates
a nationally recognized, full service 9-1-1 public safety communications
center serving a population of approximately 1.2 million residents. Fairfax
County is located in the heart of the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
The
9-1-1 System Administrator is responsible for the overall successful operation
and maintenance of the most mission critical public safety application in
the County, as well as the management information systems with which it
integrates. In addition, the 9-1-1 System Administrator:
Performs first-line troubleshooting and problem resolution for
these systems.
Supervises, coordinates and provides oversight of vendors who
provide telephony and telephony-related services and maintenance to ensure
the continual and efficient operation of all wire line, wireless and Internet
components of public safety communications.
Represents the Agency and County in local, regional, state and
national 9-1-1 matters.
Maintains knowledge and documentation of current and emerging
technologies (i.e. Next Generation 9-1-1/NG9-1-1), best practices, standards
and legislation within the 9-1-1 industry and profession.
Performs a variety of complex analyses pertaining to the 9-1-1
system.
Designs, produces and maintains statistical reports/information.
Manages/performs special projects as assigned.
Minimum
Qualifications:
Education and/or experience equivalent to an Associates Degree
in computer information systems, business administration or related field.
At least two (2) years successful experience managing a 9-1-1
telephony system in a primary 9-1-1
Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) environment.
At least two (2) years managing day-to-day contractual relationships
with technical vendors/staff.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely in technical and
non-technical (layperson) terms, both verbally and in writing.
Special
Requirements:
The selected applicant must successfully complete a background
investigation and polygraph examination.
The appointee must be able and willing to work non-traditional
hours and be available in an on-call capacity, if needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
Education and/or experience equivalent to a Bachelors Degree
in computer information systems, business administration or related field.
Experience working in Public Safety and/or managing a large
9-1-1 telephony system in a large 9-1-1 center/Public Safety Answering Point
(PSAP).
Currently certified as a Registered Public-Safety Leader (RPL)
through the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials (APCO).
Possess and maintain certification as an Emergency Number Professional
(ENP) through the National Emergency Number Association (NENA).
